The Dolton Village Board of Trustees took a significant step on Monday night by appointing a mayor pro tempore in response to ongoing corruption scandals and an FBI investigation.

Trustee Jason House was approved for the role during the village board meeting. As mayor pro tem, House will have the authority to act on behalf of the mayor when necessary.

"We want to ensure that if something urgent arises, there is someone authorized to take action," House explained.

Absent from the meeting was Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard, who is currently under investigation following numerous allegations of misconduct and corruption.

The FBI has recently issued two subpoenas to the village, which many believe are part of an investigation focusing on Henyard and concerns about her transparency.

In an attempt to address these issues, the board sought to hire former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to lead an investigation into Henyard's actions. However, Henyard vetoed the proposal, declaring:

"How dare you think you can come into someone's town and investigate? You will not get paid."

The village has also been rocked by additional scandals. A former village employee has accused a trustee of sexually assaulting her during a village-funded trip to Las Vegas.

As Dolton navigates these turbulent times, the appointment of a mayor pro tem aims to provide stability and ensure continuity in leadership.
